Construction and Technical Programs
Prepare for a Career in a Technical Field
The Construction and Technical programs provide a wide range of opportunities to enhance current employment and to provide a career ladder for advancement. Using a hands-on approach to learning, these programs prepare individuals for initial employment in a wide range of industrial occupations.
A.S. Degrees
The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is a two-year program for students training to enter the workforce with a competitive skillset. Credits earned for most A.S. degrees can be applied towards earning a bachelor's degree at SF. See advisor for details.
Certificates
Certificate programs prepare you for direct entry into the work force. Career Certificates (C.C.) are clock hour programs that are mostly hands-on learning. High school completion is not required for admission into these programs. See advisor for details.
Apprenticeship Programs
In industries where local employers have a large demand for workers, apprenticeships can open an opportunity for students to "earn while you learn." Combining on-the-job experience with classroom instruction can prepare students for the workforce at an accelerated rate. Apprentices earn a guaranteed wage throughout their training, with incremental salary steps at various stages in the program.
For Construction and Technical apprenticeships, students attend class two nights a week during the fall and spring terms. The length of the programs vary from two to four years. Students are prepared to perform as tradesmen upon completion. Students receive assistance in finding employment with contractors. The program is sponsored by the Builders Association of North Central Florida (BANCF).
