Frequently Asked Questions

Advising

It's a good idea to see an advisor whenever you are ready to start pursuing a Health Sciences program. A Health Sciences advisor can help you plan your course schedule and make sure you stay on track towards your academic and career goals.

For academic planning purposes, please ensure your transcripts from each educational institution attended are on file with the college before visiting with a Health Sciences advisor. Unofficial transcripts may be used during preliminary advisement sessions.

If you are in the AA 1070 Exploring Health Programs, AA 1071 Nursing or 3000 Previous Degree track, you can set up a time to meet with a Health Sciences Advisor through the Schedule Appointment tab in eSantaFe. Phone, Zoom and in person options are available. If no appointment times are available, that means we are booked up. However, you can still drop in and see an advisor without an appointment.

If you are not in one of the above degree tracks, or you simply prefer not to schedule, you can drop in Monday through Friday without an appointment, in person or via our Zoom lobby. Please see our Contact web page for our drop-in hours.

Drop-ins are first come, first served. Any available advisor will be able to assist you. If you wish to speak with a specific advisor, please make an appointment with that advisor. We cannot guarantee your preferred advisor is available when you drop in.

Health Sciences Advising is in the lobby of W building. W is on the south end of campus, across from the ball field. Please see our Northwest Campus map for a view of the whole campus.

Applying to a Program

Please see our How to Apply page for step by step instructions. If you're still having trouble with the application web page, please email HealthSciences.Advising@sfcollege.edu.

Please see the Dates and Deadlines page for upcoming application windows.

Enrollment in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and the Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) program is continuous. If you are interested in one of those programs, please contact us at 352-395-5650 or HealthSciences.Advising@sfcollege.edu, or drop in, in person or via our Zoom lobby to inquire about eligibility and next steps. Please see our Contact web page for our drop-in hours.

Yes. You can apply to any programs with open applications that you qualify for.

Please note that you might receive results from one program before you receive results from another. If you accept a seat in a program, we will void all other open applications you may have. Once you accept a seat in a Health Sciences program, you would have to withdraw from that program before we would consider your application to another Health Sciences program.

A conditional applicant is someone who has not yet met entry requirements to a program but plans to complete those requirements soon and is allowed to apply. If you submit a conditional application and you are admitted to a program, you must satisfy the conditions you were given at time of application, or you will lose your seat in the program. Please reach out to a Health Sciences Advisor to see if you are able to submit a conditional application to your program of choice.

We will send an email with the results of your application to you SF email account about 3 weeks after the application close date. We will send an email to every applicant. If you are selected, you will have 1 week to respond and accept your seat in the program.  Make sure you can access your student email account so you don't miss the response deadline.

Talk to a Health Sciences Advisor about our admissions statistics and how to build a stronger application for the future.

No. Health Sciences programs do not keep waiting lists. Applicants are selected to programs based upon a points system. Individuals must reapply each time they wish to be considered for a program. Applications are not automatically reconsidered for the following admission year/cycle.

Yes. We do not have a time limit on coursework.

No. We do not require any entrance exams for our Health Sciences programs.

You can audit a class. You will have to pay for the class, and you will not receive a grade at the end, but you will have the same access to class materials and assignments as a regular student. To audit a class, please reach out to the Registrar's Office.

Class Registration, Funding and Program Change Requests

When you are unable to register, you receive an error message that may help you understand what the problem is. If you're still confused, then below are some of the most common reasons you can't register. If this does not solve your problem, please see a Health Sciences Advisor.

You must view your Degree Audit. Go to your Degree Audit Detail (eSantaFe Advisement Degree Audit Degree Audit Detail) and scroll to the bottom of the page.

You have not completed the prerequisites for the class. Click the class title at the top of the registration page. Check if there are prerequisites for that class, and if you have completed those. You may need to sign up for a different class first.

You are on Academic Warning or Academic Probation and can sign up for only a limited number of credit hours. Check your Notifications (eSantaFe Records Notifications) for a message telling you that you are on Academic Warning or Probation. That message will explain the situation and give you instructions for how to appeal. If you are on Warning or Probation and have been accepted into a Health Sciences program, please contact a Health Sciences Advisor.

Your transcripts may not be fully processed by the Registrar's Office. Please see a Health Sciences Advisor for assistance.

Unfortunately, we cannot change your degree track to a Health Sciences program until you have formally applied and been admitted to that program. Application requirements are listed in each program page under Requirements for Admission. All Health Sciences programs are listed on the main Health Sciences web page.

The most common forms of financial aid will only cover coursework that contributes toward a degree track that you have formally been enrolled in. If you are not currently in a degree track, federal financial aid will not cover your coursework.

Please contact the Financial Aid Office to receive guidance for your specific circumstances.

We are sorry to say that we are not able to admit you to our programs for funding purposes. Please see SFC's Scholarships web page for other funding opportunities.

Class Transfer Issue

These are called "credit by exam" classes and must be sent in as independent transcripts. Your prior college will not send them in for you. Please see the Registrar's Credit By Exam web page for instructions on how to send scores in and for information on how to request not to transfer them in. Please talk to a Health Sciences Advisor about how these classes may impact your application to a program.

Santa Fe College is an undergraduate institution and your master's level coursework will not automatically transfer in. If you wish to use master's level coursework for prerequisites to a program, let a Health Sciences Advisor know.

Santa Fe College does not recognize classes or degrees from all schools. If your class was bachelor's level or lower and was not credit-by-exam, the most common reason for your class not to transfer in is an issue with your previous school's accreditation. Please reach out to the Registrar's Office for more information.

Other Questions

This is a requirement from the state of Florida for all degree-seeking students.

The requirement comes in two parts. You must take a class and you must take a test. Both parts must be completed:

Take a class: Take AMH2020 US History Since 1877 or POS2041 US National Government.

Take a test: Complete the Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) with at least 60% of questions correct. This is a standardized test that you can take through our Placement & Assessment Center. Study materials can be found on the Library's Standardized Test Resources web page.

If you pass the CLEP Exam for American Government, it will complete the Civic Literacy requirement for you. You will receive credit for POS2041 US National Government and you will not have to take the FCLE. Please see the Credit By Exam web page for instructions on sending your score report. Please talk to a Health Sciences Advisor about how credit by exam may impact your application to a program.

If you transferred to Santa Fe College or started your degree program in the last two years, you probably need to complete it. There are some exceptions, though. Please see the Registrar's Degree Requirements web page for details. If you are still unsure, please speak with your Advisor.

No, your high school does not send this information to Santa Fe College. Please reach out to the Disabilities Resource Center (DRC) as soon as possible to see what accommodations may be available to you.

Students who have prior degrees and are not currently in a degree track are assigned to the Health Sciences Advising Office for academic advising regardless of their ultimate academic goals. This is because about half of that population plans to pursue a Health Sciences program at Santa Fe. We are happy to assist you even if you are not interested in Health Sciences.
