Fine Arts Scholarships
Overview
Scholarships are available for students with performance and technical expertise in any area of the performing arts, including dance, music, musical theatre, technical theatre, and general theatre performance. Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in academic subject areas and must participate in a formal audition and/or presentation. Students should be ready to submit a current resume, a one-page statement discussing your goals in relationship to your past experiences and interests in Santa Fe College's program, and two letters of recommendation. Specific requirements by discipline outlined below.
Requirements
Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the Fine Arts Scholarship:
- A declared program of study in Fine Arts.
- At least a 2.5 cumulative SF GPA or high school GPA, depending on which institution was most recently attended.
- A scholarship audition/portfolio submission/interview.
- Evidence of leadership qualities.
- No grades lower than a B in the chosen fine arts discipline.
How to Apply
Students applying for Fine Arts Scholarships should complete general application and advising for Fine Arts and Entertainment Technology. Students must also have the most recent FAFSA application on file with Financial aid.
Requested materials should be submitted to discipline coordinator by Friday, May 31, 2024.

- A current resume (as a pdf)
- A one-page statement discussing your goals, their relationship to your past experiences, and your interests in Santa Fe College's theatre program (as a pdf).
- 1-2 letters of recommendation.
Theatre/Acting:
Please prepare two (2) contrasting monologues, i.e. one contemporary (from around
1950-present) and one classical (Greek, Shakespeare, Moliere) or one comedic (Neil
Simon, Wendy Wasserstein, etc.) and one dramatic (Eric Bogosian, Arthur Miller, Lanford
Wilson, etc.) no more than one minute each. Please bring a current theatrical resume
and headshot if you have one.
Theatre/Musical Theatre:
Prepare one (1) monologue from a contemporary piece (1950-2024) and one song from
a musical of your choice (please no classical pieces for this audition). The monologue
and the song performed together should be no more than three (3) minutes in length.
Please bring sheet music for your vocal piece or recorded accompaniment in digital
format. Please bring a current theatrical resume and headshot if you have one.
Please submit audition materials to Russell Schultz at russell.schultz@sfcollege.edu. Upon receipt of audition materials, Prof. Schultz will email you conformation and provide you with a detailed schedule for the day of your audition.
Music Audition Requirements:

- Submit a current resume (as a pdf).
- Submit one-page statement discussing your goals, their relationship to your past experiences, and your interests in Santa Fe College's music program (as a pdf).
- 1-2 letters of recommendation.
Instrumental
Applicants must bring the following to the audition:
- Instrumentalists: should prepare two pieces of contrasting styles from the Jazz and/or Classical repertoire. Jazz pieces can be selected from any of the following styles: Medium Swing, Latin, Blues, or Ballad. (Improvisation is optional). Classical pieces should include solo etudes or concert band literature demonstrating both your technical and lyrical performance ability.
- Applicants must bring six (6) copies of any sheet music or lead sheet used.
- Applicants must attend a brief interview with the music faculty to ascertain their level of training in music fundamentals and theory.
Vocal
Applicants must bring the following to the audition:
- Vocalists should prepare two classical pieces of contrasting styles, at least one in English.
- Applicants must bring six (6) copies of any sheet music used.
- An accompanist for a live performance is highly recommended; however, accompaniment may be provided on CD.
- Applicants must attend a brief interview with the music faculty to ascertain their level of training in music fundamentals and theory.
Please note: Vocalists wishing to use an accompanist should contact abrena.sandefur@sfcollege.edu as early as possible to make suitable arrangements.
Piano
Applicants must bring the following to the audition:
- Prepare two pieces from contrasting periods to be played from memory. Complete pieces or movements only.
- You will be asked to sight read a short excerpt or piece.
- Applicants must attend a brief interview with the music faculty to ascertain their level of training in music theory.
Music Audition Schedule Thursday, June 5th, 2025
- 9 - 9:30 a.m.
Check in at the E-Lyceum Auditorium to meet the Music faculty. - 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Auditions and Interviews with Faculty (Practice Rooms will be available)
All Applicants must complete a final interview with the Fine Arts Chair.

Dance Audition Requirements:

- Submit a current resume (as a pdf)
- Submit one-page statement discussing your goals, their relationship to your past experiences, and your interests in Santa Fe College's dance program (as a pdf).
- 1-2 letters of recommendation. At least one should be from a dance artist that you've worked with.
Applicants should have a two-minute solo prepared. Solos can be in any style and can be self-choreographed or someone's else's choreography that has granted you permission. Music can be played via Bluetooth or CD format.
Dance Audition Schedule: Wednesday, June 4, 2025
- 11 - 11:30 a.m.
Check in at the Fine Arts Hall to meet the dance faculty and tour the facilities. - 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Audition class with dance faculty in the following movement styles- Ballet, Contemporary, Improvisation - 1 - 4 p.m.
Candidates perform solos and interview with dance faculty.
Applicants must complete a final interview with the Fine Arts Chair.

- Submit one-page statement discussing your goals, their relationship to your past experiences, and your interests in Santa Fe College's Theatre program (as a pdf).
- Submit a Portfolio with student's experiences and work in technical theatre (as a
ppt and/ or pdf).
- A portfolio is three-ring binder or similar book which contains a collection of images and photos from a show in which you were directly involved.
- Be sure to provide notation for each image depicting your contribution.
- Label all entries clearly.
- Each entry should include: Dates, Venue, Name of Show, Director of Show.
- Classroom projects and personal projects (model building, cosplay, arts and crafts)
may also be included.
Examples of Portfolio inclusions. - Drawings, design plots, ground plans, sketches, models.
- Schedules, reports, running crew assignments, tracking charts.
- Prompt books with blocking and cueing.
- Photographs of construction and/ or installation processes.
- Photographs of the completed show in production.
- Do not include special effects unless it is a part of your original work.
- Submit a prepared video presentation, two (2) minutes or less in length, on one Technical Theater project or process in which a challenge was presented and the challenge was solved (as one of the following types of files: mp4, mov, wmv, avi).
