Overview

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are, “teaching, learning and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use and re-purposing by others" (as defined by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation).

  • Openstax CNX is a repository of educational content, containing over 17,000 openly licensed learning modules.
  • MIT open courseware - Free online course materials.
  • MERLOT - Part of the California State University system, the acronym stands for Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching. It offers thousands of online learning materials for educators around the world.
  • Top Tools for Learning: This is an annual list of the best ed-tech tools as compiled by the Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies in Britain.
  • Backward Design: Choosing Technology Tools for Teaching: A program to help you develop learning goals and choose the tech to support them, created via the Northwest Academic Computing Consortium.
  • Which Technology Tool Do I Choose?: This is Edutopia.org’s version of how to choose ed tech.
  • PBL (Problem-Based Learning) Clearinghouse: Here is a wealth of realistic problem scenarios that you can use in assignments across a wide variety of disciplines, curated via the University of Delaware.
  • Library of Congress - The largest library in the world, with millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps and manuscripts.
  • Visme - Create interactive online presentations, infographics, animations and banners in HTML5.
  • What Works Clearinghouse - Peer reviewed articles, strategies and help.
  • ShowMe is a free iPad app for creating voice-over whiteboard demos. This site has completed demos on all topics you can use.
  • The Noun Project - Free icons and simple graphics.
