Start-of-Term Canvas Course Ready Checklist
Overview
Center for Academic Technologies (CAT), Canvas Help, and the ID Team are providing this checklist to help you make sure your courses are ready for the first day of the term, whether they are web-enhanced, hybrid, or completely online.
Checklist
- Content is copied into each Canvas section you are using.
- Old announcements are deleted, and a new welcome announcement is posted.
- The syllabus is up-to-date (whether you are using the left navigation bar tool or a file attachment).
- Appropriate dates are set on all assignments/quizzes/discussions.
- Content is published (remember to publish both the module and the items in the module).
- Content is organized within Modules. (Content that is solely available in "Pages" or "Files" is not accessible to learners that rely on screen-reader technology.)
- Unused items are deleted or unpublished.
- Unused tools on the Course navigation are hidden from student view (ex. Pages, Files, Outcomes, Conferences, etc. – available from “Settings Navigation”).
- A Homepage is set (we recommend a Page you create with a welcome message, but you can use a direct link to modules as well). An example of a well thought out and informative homepage, effective syllabus and organized modules can be found here (https://courses.sfcollege.edu/courses/336028)
Professional Development
- CAT offers a wide variety of workshops each term. Check out the schedule: sfcollege.edu/calendar/
