The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides access to numerous VA educational benefits, each of them having varying properties and requirements. Eligibility is based on any number of factors, to include time in service and delimiting dates. Our Coordinator and Specialist are highly trained in VA educational benefits and will be able to assist you in utilizing benefits to the best of their ability. The following list is what VA Educational Benefits are available.

  • Post 9-11 G.I. Bill® / Chapter 33
  • Montgomery G.I. Bill® / Chapter 30
  • Montgomery G.I. Bill® Selected Reserve / Chapter 1606
  • Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation Program / Chapter 31

Post 9-11 G.I. Bill ® / Chapter 33

The Post 9-11 G.I. Bill ® is available for veterans who served at least 30 days of continuous active duty with an honorable discharge on or after September 10, 2001. It includes up to 100% of tuition and fees covered (dependent on time in service), an annual book and supplies stipend, and a monthly housing allowance. This benefit provides 36 months of educational benefits with a time limit to utilize based on the following:

  • Discharged before January 1, 2013 – 15 years from the day of your discharge
  • Discharged on or after January 1, 2013 – No time limit to utilize this benefit.

Montgomery G.I. Bill ® Active Duty (MGIB-AD)

The Montgomery G.I. Bill ® Active Duty is available to veterans who:

  • Served continuously for at least two years active duty.
  • Had military pay reduced by $100 a month for first 12 months.
  • Have an Honorable Discharge.

A veteran typically has 10 years from the day you exit the military to utilize this benefit.

$600 Buy-Up Program. Service members are able to contribute up to an additional $600 to the G.I. Bill ® to receive an increased monthly benefit. Consult the payment rates for monthly amounts.

Montgomery G.I. Bill ® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

This benefit is eligible for members of the following:

  • Selected Reserves, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Reserves
  • Army National Guard
  • Air National Guard

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a 6-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve after June 30, 1985. If you are an officer, you must have agreed to serve 6 years in addition to your original obligation.
  • Completed your initial active duty for training (IADT)
  • Meet the requirement to receive a high school diploma or equivalency before completing IADT
  • Remain in good standing with current unit. This can be accomplished with a Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)

Eligibility for this benefit ends the day you leave Selected Reserve.

Before enrolling in Santa Fe, service members are required to speak with their Educational Officer (ESO) or counselor within their military service prior to enrolling into our institution.

Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E)

VR&E assists entitled Veterans with service-connected disabilities and an employment handicap to prepare for, find, and maintain a job. It also helps entitled transitioning service members.
