Overview
Once a student receives a financial aid package from the college it can be viewed by going to the My FA Status Awards page in eSantaFe.
- For grants and scholarships no action needs to be taken to accept awards.
- For loans the student must complete the "Steps for Student Loans" on their My FA Status page in eSantaFe.
Below are descriptions of the awards students will most commonly see on their Awards page. There are other financial aid awards that may appear as well, such as various scholarships, private loans, and more.
Grants
Grants are gift aid that does not need to be paid back. The most common grant awards are described below.
Federal Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is a federally funded, need-based grant awarded to undergraduate students. The amount of credit hours and the specific classes a student takes affects the Pell Grant amount awarded.
The last day to drop classes for the parent term (Fall, Spring, Summer) is when the amount of hours are "locked" for determining the amount of a Pell Grant award. Adding classes after this date, even for E or B term, will not increase the Pell Grant award.
For more information see our grants page.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a need-based grant program for undergraduate Pell Grant recipients demonstrating exceptional need. Because funding is limited, this grant is distributed based on FAFSA application date.
After completing the FAFSA and the financial aid process, qualifying students are automatically awarded FSEOG based on available funding.
For more information see our grants page.
Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG)
The Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG) is available to degree-seeking, FL resident, undergraduate students who demonstrate substantial financial need based on their Federal Expected Family Contribution.
There are a limited amount of FSAG funds available. Since there are a number of students who qualify based on financial need, awards may also be distributed based on FAFSA completion date for equity.
For more information see our grants page.
First Generation Matching Grant (FGMG)
The First Generation Matching Grant (FGMG) is available to degree-seeking, FL resident, undergraduate students who demonstrate substantial financial need based on their Federal Expected Family Contribution, and whose parent(s) have not earned a bachelors degree of higher.
There are a limited amount of FGMG funds available. Since there are a number of students who qualify based on financial need, awards may also be distributed based on FAFSA completion date for equity.
For more information see our grants page.
Loans
Loans are borrowed aid which must be paid back with interest. To receive federal student loans a student must meet all requirements for federal financial aid including satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
Federal Subsidized Student Loan
A subsidized loan is awarded based on financial need. For a student eligible for a subsidized loan, the government will pay (subsidize) the interest on the loan while the student is enrolled at least half time, for the first six months after they cease to be enrolled at least half time, and if they qualify to have their payments deferred.
For more information see our loans page.
Federal Unsubsidized Student Loan
Unlike a subsidized loan, the student is responsible for interest from the time the unsubsidized loan is disbursed. The student can choose to pay the interest while in school or allow it to accumulate and be added to the principal amount of the loan.
For more information see our loans page.
Scholarships
Scholarships are gift aid that does not need to be paid back. There are numerous scholarships available to Santa Fe College students. For more information see our scholarships page.
