Grants
Grants are gift aid that does not need to be paid back. The most common grant awards are described below.
Federal Pell Grant
The Pell Grant is a federally funded, need-based grant awarded to undergraduate students. Eligible students are initially awarded their full Pell Grant eligibility each term. If a student is enrolled in less than 12 eligible credit hours, this amount will adjust based on the student's enrollment intensity.
Withdrawing from classes during the term will reduce a student's enrollment intensity. Adding eligible classes in later mini-terms will increase a student's enrollment intensity.
For more information see our grants page.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a need-based grant program for undergraduate Pell Grant recipients demonstrating exceptional need. Because funding is limited, this grant is distributed based on FAFSA application date.
After completing the FAFSA and the financial aid process, qualifying students are automatically awarded FSEOG based on available funding. Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) to receive FSEOG.
For more information see our grants page.
Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG)
The Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG) is available to degree-seeking, FL resident, undergraduate students who demonstrate substantial financial need based on their Federal Expected Family Contribution.

Loans
Loans are borrowed aid which must be paid back with interest. To receive federal student loans a student must meet all requirements for federal financial aid including satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
Federal Subsidized Student Loan
A subsidized loan is awarded based on financial need. For a student eligible for a subsidized loan, the government will pay (subsidize) the interest on the loan while the student is enrolled at least half time, for the first six months after they cease to be enrolled at least half time, and if they qualify to have their payments deferred.
For more information see our loans page.
Federal Unsubsidized Student Loan
Unlike a subsidized loan, the student is responsible for interest from the time the unsubsidized loan is disbursed. The student can choose to pay the interest while in school or allow it to accumulate and be added to the principal amount of the loan.
For more information see our loans page.
