Overview

What is Verification? When the federal government selects a FASFA for verification, schools are required to collect documentation to check the accuracy of the FAFSA information.

Federal law requires completion of verification before a financial aid offer can be made. Students notified that they are selected for verification must respond promptly to any requests for information or documents from the Financial Aid Office. This is important to secure their financial aid before the fee due date for the term they wish to enroll in.

How will I know if have been selected for verification?

If your FAFSA is selected for verification you will receive an email (to your SF email account) and a text message notification (if you have opted in for text communications) that must provide documents for verification. It is important that you respond promptly to any requests for information or documents from the Financial Aid Office.

How do I submit my verification documents?

To view what is required and submit information/documents:

  1. Login to eSantaFe.
  2. On the left-hand side select the "Finances" menu.
  3. Select "Financial Aid Portal".
  4. In the Financial Aid Portal, click on Documents.
  5. View the list of required verification documents.

Additional documentation may be requested by the Financial Aid Office to complete federal verification. It is the student's responsibility to check requirements and submit all documentation to the Financial Aid Office in a timely manner. Do not wait to submit your documents as your financial aid offer will be delayed.

What happens after I submit my verification documents?

Once you submit your documents, it is important to continue to monitor the status of your file on the financial aid portal. If a document you submitted is incomplete or incorrect, you will receive an email to your Santa Fe College email account, explaining the action that needs to be taken.

It is possible that the financial aid office may ask you to submit additional documentation. It is important to continue to monitor your financial aid portal until the process is complete.
