You've got questions...We've got answers

I may be eligible to attend Santa Fe College (SF) using Veterans Administration (VA) benefits. Who do I contact for this information?

SF’s Veterans and Military Success Services staff in Building R, Room 110 are available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. to serve veterans and dependents/survivors who are using VA educational benefits to pursue college degrees. You can also call us any time during business hours at 352-395-5505 or contact us.

I’m not sure which GI Bill I qualify for. What should I do?

If you are not sure which G.I. Bill ® that you qualify for, or you rate more than one G.I. Bill ®, please visit the VA's G.I. Bill ® Comparison Tool to compare benefits or come see us in the VMSS office before applying on VA.gov.  We are happy to help give you information to ensure that you maximize your benefit.

What do I need to do to get my educational benefits started at SF?

The first step would be to apply for admission. Once you are accepted, see steps for Newly Admitted Students.

How do I start a file for veteran benefits?

To start a file and initiate benefits for the term, sign a VA Benefits Responsibility Form, complete a Prior Credit Evaluation with your academic advisor, and fill out a VA Enrollment Activity Form. These forms are submitted directly to the Pat Tillman Veterans Center. For the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill ®, please include your latest letter from the VA that details your benefit level and months/days of benefits remaining (Certificate of Eligibility). See Next steps for newly admitted students.

Do I need to bring any paperwork with me to the office?

Please bring in any of the applicable supporting documents in the case that you do not have your CoE (Certificate of Basic Eligibility)
  • Printed Confirmation Code
  • DD-214 Member 4
  • NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility) REQUIRED WITH COE
  • Sponsor's Award Letter
  • Proof of dependency

How do I find out if I have any benefits left?

Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs' G.I. Bill ® Customer Service at 1-888-442-4551 (1-888-GIBILL-1)

Also, if you have the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill ®, you can see if you have any benefits remaining when you login to eBenefits.

Can I apply for financial aid in addition to using my VA benefits?

Yes! According to legislation passed in June 2009, effective July 2009, VA benefits are no longer considered when determining financial aid eligibility.

As an Active Duty Member / Reservist / National Guard member, is there anything I need to do prior to enrolling in Santa Fe College?

Before enrolling at SF, service members are required to speak with their Educational Officer (ESO) or counselor within their military service prior to enrolling into our institution.

As an Active Duty / Reservist / National Guard member while enrolled at Santa Fe College, I was issued orders and activated for an extended period of time.  Will I be able to be re-admitted to my program?

SF will allow any Service Member or Reservist who is temporarily unable to attend class or has to suspend their studies due to service requirements to be readmitted to their program of study, including limited access programs.  The Service Member / Reservist / National guard member is encouraged to speak with an advisor in the Office of Admissions for assistance facilitating their re-admission.
