Student Conduct
Students are responsible for knowing and abiding by the Student Conduct Code. In order to ensure an environment where these goals can be realized safely, the College promotes civility, integrity and harmony among the college community through the Student Conduct Code.
Academic Integrity
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity. Therefore, Santa Fe College has adopted a Code of Student Conduct that outlines general guidelines. Students are encouraged to discuss issues related to academic integrity with instructors. Grades

Incomplete Grades
A grade of Incomplete (“I”) will be given only in situations where a student has successfully completed nearly all of the coursework and has experienced an emergency situation at the end of the term. There is no college-wide policy regarding incompletes except that they will be “Changed to F if not completed by the conclusion of next major term.” Contact your professor regarding his or her incomplete policy, or check the course syllabus.
Netiquette
Netiquette is etiquette on the Internet, or expectations for online communications. This is a college-level course, and your communication in this class should reflect this. When communicating with the instructor or your classmates, be sure that your messages are respectful, civil, and reflect college level writing. Here are some guidelines for your communications:
- Do not use shorthand expressions like you might do in texting. For example, “u” for you, “w/“ for with, LOL, BTW, IMHO, etc. The pronoun “I” is always capitalized. The text editor in Canvas does not automatically capitalize “I” like your smartphone does.
- Be sure to use proper grammar and punctuation; note that typing IN ALL CAPS is the equivalent of shouting.
- Remember that body language and tone (such as a joking or sarcasm) may be difficult to perceive by others online, which may lead to misunderstandings.
- Discussion boards are visible to the entire class; if you have a private question for a classmate or the instructor, you should use the Canvas email system instead.
- Respect for everyone is paramount, even if you disagree with someone. Everyone’s opinion is valid just as yours is. As outlined in the Student Code of Conduct, Santa Fe College prohibits harassment and discrimination.
Testing
Many online classes require proctored testing, which means students need to be observed during the tests. There are several options for taking proctored exams. Course Information Pages should have testing requirements listed, or speak to your instructor about which options he or she allows.
