Class Formats

Choose the format that works for you.

In addition to traditional onsite campus courses, SF offers numerous classes that either do not require campus attendance or which have reduced campus attendance.

Use the following examples to identify the type of class you have within eSantaFe.

Online

Fully online courses (with no real-time meetings or campus attendance requirements):

  • Have an "M" in the section number
  • Campus & Room column says Online

Hybrid

Hybrid courses have reduced time spent in the classroom and either (a) the rest of the work may be done online or (b) the rest of the meeting time takes place in real-time using technology like Zoom.

Traditional Hybrid

Traditional hybrid courses (combine campus attendance and online / virtual course work):

  • No "M" in the section number
  • Campus & Room column contains the meeting location
  • Days/Time column states Hybrid Info under the course meeting times

When you select a traditional hybrid course, you will receive a message stating "This section is a hybrid section which requires alternating in-class meetings and online meetings."

Virtualized Hybrid

Virtualized hybrid courses (no on-campus attendance but virtual attendance required on specific days and time using technology like Zoom or Microsoft Teams):

  • No "M" in the section number
  • Campus & Room column says *S-YNC
  • Days/Time column lists when the class meets online

HyFlex

HyFlex courses are new at SF. These courses allow students to choose how they attend: coming to class on campus, attending virtual lectures in real-time using technology like Zoom, or viewing online recordings of classes. Students can switch how they attend each class depending on what they need. Learn more about HyFlex and how to succeed in it by visiting our student HyFlex page.

HyFlex courses will appear on the schedule in the following way:

  • No "M" in the section number
  • Campus & Room column contains the meeting location
  • Days/Time column states HyFlex Info under the course meeting times

When you select a HyFlex course, you will receive a message stating "This HyFlex section allows students to choose how they participate each time the class meets. This section offers flexibility to attend on-site or online using videoconferencing software and/or viewing recordings and completing activities online.

Web Enhanced Courses

This term is used when you don't have any reduced time in a physical classroom, but your instructor still includes many online components to the course, such as handouts, course notes, quizzes, a grade book and other tools to enhance learning and make course materials accessible 24/7.
