Program Overview
Business Programs offers the Organizational Management, B.A.S. This degree will help you develop the knowledge and tools to succeed in leadership positions in business, government, and nonprofit organizations. The degree is designed for students who hold either an A.A. or A.S. degree in any field and can be used by those who are new to the workplace or who seek advancement to leadership positions.
The program can be tailored to a variety of instruction modes, schedules, and interests.The coursework can be completed online, in person, or using a hybrid (online/in person) modality to provide the method of instruction that best fits your lifestyle. Class times are optimized around the schedules of students with a busy work life. The program is divided into a core set of courses and a specialization. The core coursework develops a base of knowledge useful in any operational environment while the management track develops leadership skills.
The management track has a senior capstone project that helps students apply the techniques they have learned in the classroom to the local business environment. At the end of this project, you will make an independent research-based recommendation for improving a business process identified by the business sponsor. You will also develop the soft skills needed for building a trusted relationship with your business sponsor. The Management track focuses on the skills you need to work in any management position.
Concentrations:
Students have the option to follow the traditional track for the Organizational Management B.A.S., or select one of one of three concentrations:
These tracks have a common core of 24 hours and 15 hours in the field of concentration. Additionally, all tracks have a 'capstone/internship' requirement. The remaining hours for the degree (60 total hours required) will consist of required general education courses and/or electives, as appropriate (see the Business Programs Advisor).
Requirements for Admission
This program is designed for students possessing a two-year degree (A.S. or A.A. or equivalent), regardless of field. Many students move from a technical field (CVT, IT, for example) into this program as part of their career progression into management.
For incoming freshman, the College's Associate in Science in Business Administration – Management is an excellent route to success in this program.
Program Prerequisites:
- Have earned an Associate in Science, an Associate in Arts, or equivalent from a regionally accredited educational institution. You will not be able to register for classes until you have the degree in hand.
- Have an all College Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Foreign Language Competency: Individuals who have not completed their foreign language requirement prior to enrolling at Santa Fe College must complete two semesters of college-level sequential foreign language study before finishing this program.

Program Costs
The BAS degree in Organizational Management requires 60 credit hours of courses beyond the Associate’s degree.
The In-state Tuition rate for upper division courses (3000- and 4000-level) is $126.33 per credit hour. The total tuition cost for the program then is 60 x $126.33 = $7,579.80
The Out-of-State Tuition rate for upper division courses is $428.83 per credit hour for a total tuition cost for the program of 60 x $428.83 = $25,729.80
For planning purposes, students should estimate the cost of their materials and books at the rate of $150 per course or at total of 60 x $150 = $9,000.

Program Length, Format and Curriculum
Program Length:
The normal course load for a full-time student is 12 credit hours per term. It is possible, then, to complete the program in five terms. However, most students work at least part-time and frequently take only two courses per term, thus requiring 10 terms to complete the program.
Consultation with a Business Programs' Academic Advisor is strongly recommended in determining the appropriate course load for a student to undertake as well as in scheduling the sequence in which courses should be taken.
A general principle is to use caution: overloading a student schedule with too many courses may result in poor academic performance which is detrimental to one’s GPA (and thus one’s prospects to continue studies at the graduate level) as well to one’s mental and physical health.
Success in small bites is sound advice in managing one’s academic career.

Performance Standards
Academic Progress Policies:
Students in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Management (BAS-OM) program must meet the following standards of academic progress:
- Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in upper-division courses. Failure to maintain this standard will initially result in a registration flag. A registration flag suspends the student’s right to register for further upper-division courses without advisor permission. Failure to restore the student’s GPA to a 2.0 will result in removal from the program. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for graduation.
- Upper-division course grades below ‘C’ will not count towards degree completion. Any course receiving a grade of ‘D’, ‘F’, ‘W’ or ‘I’ must be successfully completed within the next two terms, earning a minimum grade of ‘C.’
- Upon receiving a second grade of ‘D’, ‘F’, ‘W’ or ‘I’ in any upper-division coursework, a registration flag will be placed on the student’s records. Appeals may be made to the Program Coordinator.
- Students will remain in good standing when earning a grade of ‘D’, ‘F’, ‘W’ or ‘I’ in less than 20% of upper-division courses attempted/completed. For example, a student enrolled in 15 credit hours (five 3-credit hour courses) is allowed a ‘D’, ‘F’, ‘W’ or ‘I’ in one course. Students exceeding this allowance will receive a registration flag. Furthermore, students exceeding this allowance for two consecutive semesters will be removed from the BAS-OM program. Appeals may be made to the Program Coordinator.
- A grade of XF for academic dishonesty will result in removal from the program. Appeals may be made to the Program Coordinator.
- A minimum of two courses per academic year are required to remain in the program. Students not successfully completing two courses per academic year are considered not actively pursuing a BAS-OM degree and will be removed from the program.
It is recommended that students meet with a Santa Fe College Business Programs' Advisor at least once a semester. Students are responsible for keeping advisors up to date on any issues that may hinder successful academic progress.
Definitions:
Upper-division: courses numbered in the 3000 and 4000 level category.
Registration Flag: a student’s right to register for further upper-division courses will be suspended, pending advisor approval.
Appeals: a registration flag or program year removal appeal may be made in writing to the Program Coordinator, indicating sufficient evidence of unusual hardship which proved to be the proximate cause of a failure to maintain satisfactory academic progress.
