Accuplacer Next Gen/Accuplacer Next Gen (AAF)

The Accuplacer Next Gen/Accuplacer Next Gen (AAF) is offered on a walk-in basis during Placement and Assessment Center hours. You must arrive with enough time to complete the test before the center closes. You should allow yourself two hours to complete the test.

Taking the Accuplacer/AAF Off-site

If you are applying to the GE@SF (Gator Engineering at Santa Fe College) or GDC@SF (Gator Design Construction at Santa Fe College) programs and you wish to take the AAF Placement Test at a location other than Santa Fe College, please use the GE@SF and GDC@SF Programs Placement Test form.

Anyone else applying to SF who wishes to take the test at a location other than SF should use the Offsite Test Request form.

Choose a testing site and get the proctor's name and contact information from the National College Testing Association website. You will include that information on the form. The Placement and Assessment Center staff will contact the site you choose and provide them with a code they will need to administer the test to you. It could take up to 24 hours for them to receive the information they need. Please contact the testing site for verification before going to take the test.

Retaking the Accuplacer/AAF

You may sit for the Accuplacer Next Gen (AAF) once without charge. Students may only retake the AAF by permission of the math department chair due to extenuating circumstances. However, all students may challenge their AAF placement once by taking a free challenge test, called the ALEKS test. The challenge test is similar to a final exam for the course the student placed into. The score on the ALEKS test will determine higher level placement. We strongly suggest you review materials on the math department webpage before attempting the challenge test.

ALEKS Math Test

The ALEKS is offered on a walk-in basis in the Placement and Assessment Center, K-05. You must arrive with enough time to complete the test before the center closes. You should allow yourself at least two hours to complete the test.

Taking the ALEKS Off-site

Retaking the ALEKS

You may sit for your initial ALEKS math test and up to five retakes without charge. You create an account within the ALEKS program when you take your initial test, and ALEKS designs a tailored review program based on your score. You must complete five hours of the review program before you are eligible to retest. The remediation may be done at home, using your login credentials. The re-testing must be done in a proctored environment. The score on the ALEKS math test will determine higher level placement.

Chemistry Placement Exam

Chemistry Placement Exam Expectations PDF

The Chemistry Placement exam can be taken once a semester. Students are allowed two hours for the exam. Students must have a ALEKS score of 61 or higher or have completed MAC1105 with a C or higher. See Chemistry Practice Exam and Answers PDF.

CLEP

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds to demonstrate their mastery of introductory college-level material and earn college credit. Students can earn credit for what they already know by getting qualifying scores on any of the 33 examinations.

The CLEP test is developed by the College Board. On the College Board website, you can take find out more about how CLEP exams work, take a free online CLEP preparation course, and purchase study guides.

You must register in advance for CLEP proctoring at SF’s Placement and Assessment Center, and may do so on the College Board site. Once you have completed the CLEP test, you can request the College Board to send the score to SF.

FCLE

The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) is an assessment developed by the Sate of Florida that measures civic literacy. There are four main competencies measured:

  • American Democracy
    Understanding of the basic principles and practices of American democracy and how they are applied in our republican form of government
  • United States Constitution
    An understanding of the United States Constitution and its application
  • Founding Documents
    Knowledge of the founding documents and how they have shaped the nature and functions of our institutions of self-government
  • Landmark Impact on Law & Society
    An understanding of landmark Supreme Court cases, landmark legislation and landmark executive actions and their impact on law and society

Students who need to take the FCLE should come to the Placement and Assessment Center in K-05. You will need to know your SFID number, and you will need to present a photo ID. There are 80 questions on the test, and you will need to answer 48 of them correctly, or 60%, in order to obtain a passing score. Currently, there is no fee for this exam nor is there a limit on the number of retakes.

Taking the FCLE Off-site

If you wish to take the FCLE test at a location other than Santa Fe College, please use the Offsite Test Request form.

If you wish to take the FCLE test remotely, please email the testing coordinator at ed.braddy@sfcollege.edu and be sure to include your SFID.

Non-SF Students

If you are a student at another institution and would like SF to proctor an exam, please complete the form below. The cost of proctoring is $30 per term, payable to SF Finance Cashier. The fee is valid for one semester. You must pay for the exam in the Cashier's office in the administration building, F-052, then bring the receipt to the Placement and Assessment Center in K-05 for proctoring.

If you wish to take the PERT test at a location other than Santa Fe College, please use the Offsite Test Request form.

Retaking a Placement Test

You may sit for the PERT once without charge. Afterward, you are permitted two retake attempts. Each retake attempt costs $30 regardless of the number of subtests you are retaking. You pay the fee at the Cashier’s Office (F-26) and provide us with the receipt. After two retake attempts or if you want to retake the PERT after you are currently enrolled in the subject area or it is after the drop-add date, you must obtain permission of your academic advisor and/or the department chair.

Santa Fe College is proud to be an approved site for Pearson VUE exams. Pearson VUE delivers over four million high-stakes exams a year for clients in the licensure, certification, academic admissions, regulatory and government testing service markets.

Information about the specific tests, along with exam prep materials and test-taker tips, can be found on the Pearson VUE website at pearsonvue.com. You must schedule your exam proctoring in advance on the VUE website using their online form or by calling the toll-free number listed on the site.
