The National Hurricane Center is reporting that Hurricane Milton has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is still tracking toward Florida's west coast. As of the 2 p.m. report, Milton has sustained winds of 80 mph and is moving east at 6 mph. The storm is expected to intensify before making landfall Wednesday.

Earlier today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis expanded his Declaration of Emergency to include Santa Fe College's entire service district of Alachua and Bradford counties, as well as the counties that surround the SF service district. The college's Emergency Management Team has been activated and is working in coordination with federal, state and local agencies as the storm approaches the state.

Currently, the college remains open and will conduct all standard academic and business operations. All official updates from the college will be published on this SF Alerts page.

The next update will be published by noon Monday, October 7.
