KING INKS WITH MARSHALL UNIVERSITY
Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe women’s basketball star and all time leading shot blocker Leandra King recently signed a letter of intent to continue her playing career at Marshall University, SF Coach Chanda Stebbins announced.
Marshall (Huntington, WV) is coached by Royce Chadwick who will enter his 11th season at the helm of the Thundering Herd program in 2011-12. The Herd finished 2010-11 with a 9-21 overall record and a 5-11 record in Conference USA.
As a sophomore, 6’3″ King set the single season Santa Fe record for blocked shots with 82 and shattered the record for career blocks with 130, breaking the previous mark of 69 set by Katie Koestner in 2007.
King averaged 8.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in 2010-11, finishing with six double doubles and 13 double digit rebound games, including a career high 16 against Florida State College-Jacksonville on 2/12/2011. For her efforts she was named All-Mid Florida Conference First Team and FCSAA All-State First Team.
“We are very happy for Leandra and her decision to play at Marshall,” said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. “We look forward to continuing to watch her play and wish her the best of luck in the future. She was a tremendous presence in the paint for us the past two seasons and will be missed.”
