Business Administration - Insurance & Risk Management, A.S.

Program Overview

Everybody needs insurance, because everyone faces risk: individuals, businesses, governmental units, and non-profit organizations. As new technologies and new business models continue to emerge, the challenge of managing risk is ever evolving, making risk management and insurance an exciting career field. The range of careers includes underwriting, loss control, claims investigation, risk management, actuarial, and insurance agents, as well as finance, sales, marketing, and more in support of insurance companies. The industry remains strong during economic downturns and provides for a rewarding life with competitive salaries and the opportunity to help people and businesses to avoid disasters and rebuild lives when disasters are unavoidable.

Business Programs' Associate in Science in Business Administration – Risk Management & Insurance is a 60-credit hour program that covers principles of property and liability insurance, personal and commercial insurance as well business law, financial accounting, public speaking, management, marketing, computer software, human resources, and other classes to ensure a well-rounded education. Your degree will culminate with a 3-credit hour internship that provides students with hands-on experience in a professional work environment.

Successful completion of all of the A.S. Insurance and Risk Management program requirements will meet the prerequisite requirements to exempt students from taking the state of Florida licensure exams listed below. Students graduating from this degree can apply for the following State of Florida licenses:

Licensure

  • 20-44 Resident Personal Lines License,
  • 4-40 Resident Customer Representative License, and
  • 2-40 Resident Health License exams.

If you are a student who resides outside of Florida, or plan to relocate outside of Florida, Santa Fe College has made the determination that this degree program or curriculum only meets educational requirements for professional licensure in the state of Florida. Please contact the Licensure Board in your state to determine whether this program or curriculum will meet other state licensure requirements.

There are no Admissions requirements for this program.

If a student is not at college level, they would take the prep classes before beginning the program courses, but could still be admitted.

Students can pursue two programs at the same time, such as an A.S. degree and an A.A. degree, or a primary degree and an alternate degree.

  • Our students have interned at numerous large, medium-sized and small organizations. Internships are offered in the Spring term only.

Salary range in Florida:

  • Workers on average earn$63,730.
  • 10% of workers earn$47,710 or less.
  • 10% of workers earn$106,470 or more.
