Registration is now open for the 2022 STEM Summer Camp

Overview

Santa Fe College welcomes you to 2022 Earth/Wind/Fire/Water STEM Summer Camp.

Rising ninth graders in Alachua and Bradford counties are invited to apply for a free, science-oriented, fun-filled summer camp.

This program is dedicated to rising ninth graders (eighth into ninth grade) to develop their joy of learning in a safe and nurturing environment. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to come and explore the world around them while having lots of fun and engaging in interactive learning projects. Activities include constructing solar models, building and launching rockets, creating 3D printing designs, solving crimes with the latest DNA technology and more.

Students will also explore the Santa Fe College Planetarium, Teaching Zoo, Construction Institute, and Health Science programs.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the Required Forms Section below and download and complete all necessary forms.
  2. Completed applications can be mailed to the Santa Fe College Perry Center for Emerging Technologies, emailed to deborah.singletary@sfcollege.edu, faxed to 386-418-0269, or dropped off at the SF Perry Center.

All applications are due by Friday, June 3, 2022. Students will be notified by email if they have been selected by Friday, June 10, 2022.

Direction to SF Perry Center

The Santa Fe College Perry Center is located on Highway 441 in Alachua, Florida. If you are driving on ­Highway 441 coming from Gainesville, the college is on your right before you cross the bridge in ­Alachua. If you are driving on I-75, take first exit for Alachua/High Springs and take a left as you exit the ramp. Drive through Alachua and as you cross over the bridge going towards Gainesville; ­we are located on your immediate left as you cross the bridge. ­

Code of Conduct

STEM Camp is an academic and enriching experience and participation in the program is voluntary. Once a student has been accepted into the camp and has committed to attend, they are expected to act appropriately in the college environment.

On the application form, located in the Forms section, there is a check box that indicated the student and parent/guardian have read and accepted the following statement as the STEM Camp Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct

I, the student, and I, the parent/guardian, certify that I have read the, and been given the opportunity to ask questions about the rules and regulations of the STEM Camp at Santa Fe College program. We agree to comply with said rules and regulations. We understand that the student's participation may be terminated if the student fails to follow the rules and regulations, and that I, the parent/guardian, will be responsible for all expenses incurred by the student's behavior, including travel, medical, and attorney's fees.

Rules and Regulations

General Information

  • STEM Camp is designed as an academic and enriching educational experience and participation in the program is entirely voluntary. Once the student has committed to attend, he/she is expected to act appropriately in the college.
  • STEM Camp will take place June 20 – June 23, 2022, Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday student can be dropped off at the SF Perry Center for Emerging Technologies at 9 a.m. and picked up by 4 p.m. On Thursday, student should be dropped off at Santa Fe College Northwest Campus by 9 a.m. and picked up by 4 p.m.  There will be further information provided prior to camp.
  • Parents or legal guardians are responsible for student transportation to and from the SF Perry Center in Alachua (Monday through Wednesday) and the SF Northwest Campus (Thursday).
  • Please be sure that the student is dropped off no earlier than 20 minutes before STEM Camp start time of 9 a.m. and that the student is picked up immediately when STEM Camp is over at 4 p.m. There will be supervision during drop off and pick up times. 
  • The student must bring a sack lunch.  Parents may pack healthy snacks for their children.  Drinks will be available for purchase from vending machines, but these are not necessarily healthy.
  • STEM Camp staff and instructors will supervise the students at all times.
  • Consequences to Disciplinary Incidents: Santa Fe College requires that all rising 9 grade participants, regardless of age, act in accordance to the rules of the college.  Therefore, students who have a disciplinary problem during STEM Camp, either with an instructor or in any way, will have their parents/guardian notified immediately. The appropriate measures will be taken by the STEM Camp instructor/coordinator and parents/guardian to ensure that the disruptive behavior is not repeated. If a second behavior problem occurs, the parent/guardian will be notified, and the student will be expelled from the STEM Camp Program.

Proper standards of conduct are necessary to protect the health, safety and well-being of all STEM Camp students and SF staff.

It is impossible to itemize every rule of conduct governing each circumstance, so please use good judgment in your actions. The following actions will NOT BE TOLERATED:

  • Disruptive behavior of any kind.
  • Discourtesy to fellow students, staff or the public.
  • Disregarding the instructions of the program coordinator, instructors or other staff members.
  • Making indecent or sexual remarks or gestures to anyone.
  • Fighting, threatening to fight with or assaulting others verbally or physically.
  • Dishonesty, stealing or unauthorized possession of college property or the property of others.
  • Going ANYWHERE on campus unescorted by a STEM Camp staff member.
  • Creating or contributing to unsanitary conditions.
  • Destruction of property or equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, writing on walls or anywhere
  • in the building, tearing out pages of books, purposely breaking any electronic devices, carving into desks or any other property belonging to Santa Fe College.
  • Carelessness or the unnecessary waste of materials.
  • Horseplay of any kind, whether it results in injury or damages. This includes, but is not limited to yelling
  • in any hallways, running, pushing, or throwing of objects.
  • Sleeping during camp hours.
  • Use of profanity.
  • Possession of weapons of any kind or of any size.

Procedure in case of injury

If you, the student, should suffer any injury or illness, no matter how minor you feel it may seem, report it immediately to STEM Camp personnel. If you have any questions, please ask STEM Camp personnel. We are here to make your experience with the STEM Camp successful.
