MIAMI DADE PREVAILS OVER SAINTS IN STATE TOURNAMENT
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints managed only three hits in a loss to Miami Dade College Thursday night, falling 11-2 to the Sharks in the first round of the FCCAA/NJCAA Region VIII State Tournament in Lakeland. Santa Fe plays Friday at 1:00pm against Gulf Coast.
MDC starting pitcher Daniel Hernandez was masterful on the mound, allowing only two earned runs while striking out 11. Gary Merians (5-4) started for the Saints and matched Hernandez for the first two innings before running into trouble in the third. Two wild pitches and two sacrifice flies gave the Sharks a 5-1 lead, one they would not relinquish.
Jeff Moyer provided a bright spot for the offense, tripling in the sixth inning, leading to a Saints run.
Moyer, Spina and Claudio had the only hits for SF.
The Saints face off against FCCAA #1 Gulf Coast CC tomorrow at 1:00pm in an elimination game. The commodores were upset by St. Petersburg College 10-9 earlier in the day. The game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
