BARTLEY NAMED MFC PLAYER OF THE YEAR, EIGHT OTHER SAINTS HONORED

Gainesville, FL – After  completing one of the best statistical seasons in Santa Fe women’s basketball history, sophomore point guard Lanita Bartley was named the Mid-Florida Conference “Player of the Year” for her success on the court so far in 2009-2010.

Bartley averages a MFC best 18.1 points per game, good enough for second in the state and 14th in the country.  She is second on the team in rebounding with 6.2 rpg and leads the team in assists with 5.3 per game and steals at 3.2 per game. She became only the third player in SF women’s basketball history to record a triple double, achieving the feat twice.  She was also named the National Junior College Athletics Association Player of the Week twice, the first SF player to receive the honor twice in one season.

During her sophomore season, Bartley broke Laura Johnson’s 28 year old record for most free throws attempted and made in a season (184) and career (270), shattering the previous records by more than 50.  She is ninth all time in assists (227) and tenth in steals (135).

Sophomore guard Tracie Sneed, freshman forward Leandra King and sophomore forward Letiecia Davenport joined Bartley on the All Mid-Florida Conference First Team.

Sneed, the Saints second leading scorer behind Bartley, averages 15.7 points per game with 4.9 rebounds and a team leading 59 made three pointers.  Her 92 career three pointers ranks her third all-time at Santa Fe.  She will play next season for Georgia State University.

Davenport, who will be joining Sneed at Georgia State next season, averages 7.3 points per game and 5.5 rebounds.  She is 15th all time in career rebounds at SF with 341.

King, a defensive force for the Saints, leads the team in rebounds (6.9 rpg), field goal percentage (47.2%) and blocked shots (45), while averaging 4.8 points per game.

All MFC Second Team members include: freshman forward Demisha Mills (7.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg), sophomore guard India Johnson (5.3 ppg, 1.3 rpg), freshman forward Brandice Howard (5.3 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and freshman guard Amanda Woodside (1.1 ppg, 1.4 rpg).  Jazmyne Green (3.9 ppg, 1.3 rpg) was named Honorable Mention.

The Saints will be in action on Thursday, March 4 at 1:00pm in Marianna at Chipola College against Tallahassee CC in the FCCAA State Tournament.
