Shared Governance

Engage in shared governance

Shared Governance gives students, faculty and staff the structure needed to provide input and recommendations on policies and procedures at the college. Santa Fe College has three entities that serve in shared governance - Student Government, College Senate and the Career Service Council.

Student Government

SF’s Student Government (SG) is modeled on the U.S. government and contains an executive, legislative and judicial branch. It also includes a programs branch that supports events and activities for all students to participate in on campus. The SG president meets on a regular basis with the college president to inform him of different SG agenda items or student issues. The SG President participates in the President’s Cabinet, Coordinating Council, and Board of Trustee meetings. Other student leaders serve on the Activities & Service Fees (A&S Fees) Committee, Calendar Committee, and Student Code of Conduct Board. The Legislative Branch includes 50-60 student organization, academic and at-large senators. Collectively, they bring student-centered issues on and off campus to the agenda and author official resolutions which, if passed, are taken to other shared governance bodies on campus for discussion.

Dr. Paul Broadie maintains an open line of communication with other SF students through the “President’s Chats” held several times a year in different SF locations.

College Senate

The Santa Fe College Senate was established to allow full-time faculty, administrators, and professional staff the opportunity to participate in college policy making; improve the college and community; propose and discuss solutions to issues of concern; and function as a liaison between the membership and other local, state and national associations and programs. The Executive Council meets regularly throughout the year to discuss and make recommendations relating to professional, operational, fiscal and instructional matters. Representatives have the opportunity to voice their concerns, make motions and vote on these motions. The College Senate is comprised of standing committees - Salary and Benefits, Curriculum, and Professional. The college president consults with the College Senate on a consistent and timely basis. In turn, the senate president meets regularly with the college president and attends the President’s Cabinet, Coordinating Council, Resource and Planning Council, and Board of Trustee meetings. The College Senate has the right to make policy recommendations to the college president.

Career Service Council

Career Service Council (CSC) is a self-governing, self-supporting organization that represents the interests of Santa Fe College’s full time technical, clerical, trade and service employees. Each SF building is represented by a Cluster Representative who attends monthly meetings that discuss college-wide issues and explore solutions. The CSC elective representative participate in the formulation of policies and procedures relating to its membership, their working environments and the college community. The chair of the CSC attends the President’s Cabinet, Coordinating Council, Resource and Planning Council, and Board of Trustee meetings.
