Overview 

This course will teach you Lean Six Sigma process improvement projects from start to finish. Green Belts can deliver measurable, sustainable improvement by finding the root causes of problems and streamlining processes. The course was developed to meet today's changing business environments and is facilitated by highly experienced and successful Lean Six Sigma Experts. It draws on what the experts practice every day in the field to provide you with the most effective way to learn and implement Lean Six Sigma.

Upon completion of this course and required project, you will be prepared for the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification exam. The registration fee for this exam is included with the course.

Hardware Requirements:

  • This course can be taken on either a PC or Mac.

Software Requirements:

  • PC: Windows 8 or newer.
  • Mac: OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 or later.
  • Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge and Safari are also compatible.
  • Microsoft Office Suite or Google Docs/Sheets/Slides/Forms & Apache OpenOffice (not included in enrollment).
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

The instructional materials required for this course are included in enrollment and will be available online.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course; however, it is highly recommended that you have some history of professional work experience (full-time, part-time, internship, volunteer work, etc.) to successfully complete course assignments and projects. The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification requires you to complete your own real-world project and an exam to be successfully completed. It is strongly recommended that the business project be completed at your place of employment. Projects are subject to approval by Master Black Belt Coaches.

Instructor

Tracy O'Rourke is a Master Black Belt with over 20 years of success helping organizations like the Department of Veterans Affairs, the State of Washington, Cisco, DC Shoes, GE, and Motorola learn and apply Lean and Six Sigma. Tracy is an accomplished facilitator, trainer, and presenter. She has a B.A. in English Literature from San Francisco State University and an MBA with emphasis in Leadership and Managing Organizational Change from Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University.

Elisabeth Swan is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt with over 20 years of experience consulting for organizations like Amazon, Charles Schwab, Burt's Bees, Microsoft, and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. Swan is an accomplished consultant, designer, and executive coach with expertise in training, process-based organization design, problem-solving, and change management. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Barnard College.

Can I register for a course if I am an international student?

How long does it take to complete this course?

This course is self-paced and open enrollment, so you can start when you want and finish at your own pace. When you register, you'll receive six (6) months to complete the course.

What if I don't have enough time to complete my course within the time frame provided?

The time allotted for course completion has been calculated based on the number of course hours. However, if you are unable to complete the course, contact your Student Advisor to help you work out a suitable completion date. Please note that an extension fee may be charged.

What kind of support will I receive?

You may be assigned with an instructor or team of industry experts for one-on-one course interaction. Your support will be available (via email) to answer any questions you may have and to provide feedback on your performance. All of our instructors are successful working professionals in the fields in which they teach. You will be assigned to an Advisor for academic support.

What happens when I complete the course?

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

Am I guaranteed a job?

This course will provide you with the skills you need to obtain an entry-level position in most cases. Potential students should always do research on the job market in their area before registering.

Can I get financial assistance?

This course is non-credit, so it does not qualify for federal aid, FAFSA and Pell Grant. In some states, vocational rehab or workforce development boards will pay for qualified students to take our courses. Additionally, some students may qualify for financial assistance when they enroll, if they meet certain requirements. What if I do not pass the project requirement of the course?

You are allowed 3 revisions of your project, where you are provided feedback by a Master Black Belt. If you fail to pass after 3 revisions, there will be a fee of $300 to submit another revision.

What will I do as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt?

As a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, you may lead quality improvement projects, or you may work under or in support of a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt for more complex projects. In this role, you will be responsible for defining, measuring, analyzing, improving and controlling projects that affect quality. This may be your full time role but sometimes, Green Belts work on quality improvement projects part-time in addition to their other roles within a company.

Yes, demand for professionals with Lean Six Sigma certifications is high and continuing to rise not just in large corporations where we've seen these jobs historically but also in mid-sized organizations as well. In fact, many of the jobs with the highest salaries as well as highest increases in job openings in the United States are related to process improvement.

What is the green belt certification?

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is the first step in your Lean Six Sigma journey. In order to prepare for this certification, you will learn how to select the right projects, define problems that need to be solved, measure to create a baseline, perform analysis to determine the cause of the problem, work to improve processes by implementing solutions, and control the new process and maintain the solution. This certification is achieved after completing Lean Six Sigma training and taking an exam through GoLeanSixSigma.com. The exam consists of 130 multiple-choice questions, and students will be awarded a certificate after successful completion.

Can I use Lean Six Sigma without certification?

Yes. You can work in a job that requires knowledge of Lean Six Sigma without obtaining certification as long as you possess the proper knowledge, training and experience to get the job done. However, we encourage all students to sit for Green Belt and/or Black Belt certification. In short, certification will open up more opportunities for you. These certifications are highly-respected worldwide, they prove your commitment to the industry and your understanding of global standards, they place you ahead of your competition for jobs, and they show that you are continuously learning through professional development.
