Overview

The pages linked below include practical steps you can follow to increase the accessibility of materials used in your Canvas course site. Whether your course is entirely online, a hybrid course, or a web-enhanced course, these tips will help reduce barriers to your instructional materials. 

A little forewarning: it can seem daunting to consider all of the work that needs to be done to make one's course as accessible as possible. So, we recommend first applying the tips noted below as you create or select new instructional materials. Then, as time allows, we suggest focusing on the first three bullet points as you look back on prior courses you may have designed.  If you need assistance applying these tips, please email idteam@sfcollege.edu.

• Ensure text-based materials are screen-reader friendly
• Use videos with accurate captioning
• Describe the essential elements of images
• Make web links accessible
• Use accessible text colors and fonts
• Include DRC Statement
• Use media in accordance with copyright law
