( iv ) - Santa Fe College is committed to constantly improving its educational programs and to insuring that associate in arts students are exposed to coursework covering all of the college’s general education learning outcomes. The college’s six general education learning outcomes (communication, critical thinking, information literacy, quantitative reasoning, scientific reasoning and global socio-cultural responsibility) are mapped to the eleven general education (GELO) course categories . By assigning a GELO to each category, the college assures that every associate in arts student will graduate with exposure to all six of the general education learning outcomes.

In addition to mapping learning outcomes to categories of general education, the faculty use the analysis of their students’ achievement of learning outcomes to improve their instructional practices. Faculty are required to document the results of this analysis and the modifications in their instructional practices within eStaff, using the assessment and planning forms. These forms provide faculty with an opportunity to reflect on their teaching, student success, and identify resources needed from the college to improve student outcomes.

In terms of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, not only are the students enrolled in A.S., A.A.S. and certificate programs required to complete general education coursework, they are also expected to achieve the program - specific outcomes required by their disciplines and accrediting agencies. CTE program directors analyze their graduates’ performances on credentialing examinations and consider the feedback they receive from employer and graduate surveys. In addition, CTE programs have advisory committees composed of local employers, members of the community, current students and recent graduates. These committees provide an additional source of expertise to help improve our CTE programs.
