Adult Basic Education (ABE)

If you want to improve your skills, prepare for the GED®, and get training to prepare you for further education and careers, the SF Adult Education program is for you. Work in a classroom, online, or in an individualized learning lab staffed by trained, caring instructors. Take advantage of career preparation classes, individual assistance and workshops all designed to help you prepare for your next steps.

GED® Preparation

After you refresh your Adult Basic Education skills, begin preparing for the GED®. You will get the opportunity to take GED® Ready tests, practice using the GED® calculator, and study targeted GED® skills. When you and your instructors think you are ready, you can sign up at ged.com to schedule your official GED® test. When you pass the GED® tests, you will earn a State of Florida high school diploma, which will enable you to pursue further education and advance in the job market.

The GED® consists of four content-area assessments:

  • Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA), which tests a student’s ability to read closely, write clearly, and edit and understand written text
  • Mathematics, which tests quantitative and algebraic problem solving
  • Science, which includes life science, physical science, earth and space science
  • Social Studies, which includes civics and government, U.S. history, economics, geography and the world

Learn more about the official GED® test and create an account on ged.com.

Students ages 16 and 17 should talk with a parent/guardian and school counselor to make sure Adult Education is the right option. If so, get an official withdrawal form that says you are enrolling in a GED program and bring that form to the intake specialist at the campus of your choice.

Contact or visit an intake specialist

This specialist will give you information on program orientation activities, entry assessment (TABE testing), and fee payment. The Adult Education program costs $30 per semester.

ABE/GED® students, contact the intake specialist at the campus of your choice.

Students with Disabilities - If you would benefit from accommodations in testing and in class, you have the right, but are not required, to declare your disability and request accommodations. We will assist you in obtaining the necessary documentation.
