SF Men’s Basketball: Santa Fe Saints Look to Build on Season Opener Performances

November 4, 2024

The Santa Fe College Saints men’s basketball team faced a challenging start to the 2024-2025 season.

On Friday, Nov. 1, the Saints traveled to Pensacola State College for their season opener, where they fell 80-64 to the Pirates. The Saints struggled in the first half, but rallied in the second, outscoring the Pirates 42-34. Pensacola held on for the win.

The next day, SF faced Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, seeking redemption after the previous night’s loss. The Saints led 39-34 at halftime. Mississippi Gulf Coast, however, mounted a second-half comeback, scoring 45 points to edge out the Saints 79-77.

“We competed for 40 minutes and had a chance to win it at the end against a very good Mississippi Gulf Coast team,” Saints Head Coach John Ritzdorf said. “Although we competed and fought much better, we are still turning it over too much to beat good teams. Looking forward to a few practices and our first home game on Wednesday.”

The Saints host North Florida Prep Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
