SF affected by Microsoft Outlook outage

August 31, 2026
Update:
8:30 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2026
Santa Fe College users are beginning to receive email through Outlook. However, Micosoft warns of potential delayed delivery and other residual impact.
Microsoft reports: We're progressively restarting targeted sections of affected infrastructure to ensure the re-applied authentication components are effectively implemented across affected services. We expect this will aid the recovery of affected scenarios. Users should expect delayed delivery of backlogged messages and residual impact across downstream scenarios as these actions are continuing. We'll provide an expected recovery time as soon as one becomes available to us.
Earlier reporting:
Microsoft is experiencing a widespread outage affecting Exchange Online and Outlook eamail. Santa Fe College, among other Florida colleges, is affected. Users may not be able to send or receive emails through Outlook. Accounts were affected beginning early Monday, August 31, 2026, and about 11:30 a.m. locally. Also, be aware that messages you sent as the outage happened might be stuck in your Outbox and never sent.
Late Monday, Microsoft reported that they "identified an issue with an authentication component which is contributing to impact. To address this, we’ve developed a remediation strategy, and we’re applying it to a portion of infrastructure to test its efficacy. Once we’ve confirmed this resolves impact, we’ll apply the solution more broadly."
At this point, however, there is no estimated time when Outlook and Exchange Online will be available.
It also has been reported that other integrated Microsoft 365 cloud services are experiencing disruptions. At this time, Santa Fe College has not experienced those outages but is alert to the issue.
