Santa Fe College Celebrates Campus Sustainability Month on Oct. 16

October 14, 2024

The American Association for Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) designates October as Campus Sustainability Month, encouraging colleges and universities to promote environmental awareness and action. Santa Fe College’s Sustainability Committee is hosting an event on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Oak Grove on the Northwest Campus. This event will bring together different student organizations and community groups to share information and resources about sustainability.

Here are some of the groups that will participate in the event:

  • Conservation and Sustainability Club
  • Earth Science Club
  • Organic Gardeners Club
  • City of Gainesville - Department of Sustainable Development
  • Alachua County Solid Waste and Resource Recovery
  • Community Weatherization Coalition
  • Current Problems
  • Community Arts Coalition

The Sustainability Committee has been working on a “Zero Waste Initiative” since 2021. This year's event will help pave the way for a Waste Audit set to take place in November. This audit marks a significant achievement in the College's efforts to promote sustainability and reduce waste on campus.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to stop by, engage with the organizations, and discover ways to support sustainability both on campus and at home. For more details, visit sfcollege.edu/sustainable.
