Santa Fe College Awarded Grant for College Knowledge Program
November 19, 2024
Santa Fe College has received more than $91,000 in funding from the Children's Trust of Alachua County (CTAC) to launch College Knowledge, a program designed to provide underserved K-12 students with college-readiness education.
The initiative aims to inspire students to envision their futures, focusing on how a college education can transform their interests into meaningful careers. A College Knowledge specialist will deliver interactive, age-appropriate activities and presentations to community organizations offering afterschool or summer programs for children.
"We want elementary, middle-school-age and older kids to go home afterwards and tell their parents or guardians that they want to go to college," said Quinten Eyman, Director of Recruitment and SF Achieve, who is overseeing the program. "We want them to dream big, and we're going to help them realize they can achieve those dreams."
With the support of CTAC, Santa Fe College is committed to holding 150 college readiness sessions for 1,500 students by the end of the grant period on Sept. 30, 2025. Currently, the college is working to identify community organizations to partner with, ensuring access to students in need of enrichment opportunities.
This grant reflects the Children's Trust of Alachua County's commitment to funding programs that empower youth throughout the region. College Knowledge will serve as a critical steppingstone in helping students and their families view higher education as a reachable goal, regardless of their background.
