Employees Enjoyed Best Seats on UF Homecoming Parade Route

October 22, 2024

It was the perfect Autumn Day, the University of Florida was marking its 101st Homecoming with a parade, and Santa Fe College had a front row seat for the party.

More than 150 employees, family and friends gathered at Blount Hall on Oct. 18 for food, fellowship, some Gator support, and, of course, the best parade view on the route.

Nearly 100 hotdogs, several side dishes and six crockpots of chili and soup were devoured.

The AFC Chili Cook Off champion was Professor of Mathematics and former AFC President, Steve Grosteffon, with a spicy traditional chili.  He graciously donated his cash prize of more than $130 back to AFC.

"On behalf of the Senate, Career Service Council, AFC Chapter and Human Resources, I would like to thank all the participants and especially the SFPD and the Blount Hall employees who were amazing hosts," said Lela Frye, Director of Human Resources. "And a special shout out to Judy Nickell, who not only made sure everything was set up but also provided assistance throughout the day along with clean up at the end."

Who's already thinking about next year's event? It's going to be great.
