SAINTS END REGULAR SEASON WITH WINS OVER TALLAHASSEE AND HILLSBOROUGH
Gainesville, FL – The 2010 Mid-Florida Conference champion and NJCAA ranked #7 Santa Fe Saints (45-7, 21-3 MFC) ended their regular season on a high note on Saturday afternoon, defeating Tallahassee CC in game one of the day, 5-2 and Hillsborough CC 7-0 in game three of a three game triangle. Tallahassee won over Hillsborough in game two, 8-1.
Colena Lazar picked up the win in game one and moved her record to 26-2. She struck out 15 Eagle batters and now has 269 strikeouts in 192.1 innings pitched.
The Saints scored five runs on eight hits and seven TCC errors. Ashley Peterson was 2-for-2 with an RBI, Gia Tomossone finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Alexis Sowell, Jaimee Vega, Lawna Hunter and Ashley Curry had one hit each.
Jasmine Warren (19-4) shut down Hillsborough 7-0 in the Saints second game of the day, pitching her sixth shutout of the season. She scattered four hits in seven innings of work.
Gia Tomossone finished 2-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI, Vega was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Taylor Pangilinan was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Colesa Lazar finished 2-for-3 and Ashley Curry, Jasmine Warren, Mandi Brown and Lawna Hunter finished with one hit apiece.
MFC #1 seed Santa Fe travels to Auburndale on April 30 – May 2 for the FCCAA State Tournament. The Saints take on MFC #5 seed Lake Sumter in the first round at the Auburndale Softball Complex on April 30 at 12:00 p.m. They will play a round two game on April 30 at 5:00pm against a team to be determined.
