September 19, 2024 – This year's Student Affairs Symposium will be held on Friday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. in the Santa Fe College Lyceum. After presenting awards with President Paul Broadie to deserving Student Affairs staff and partners, Vice President Naima Brown will introduce keynote speaker Dr. Ladonna Young to discuss “Mindsets Matter: The How Behind the What.”

In this session, participants will examine what it means to send learning mindset supportive messages as students make decisions about Santa Fe College. Session attendees will walk away with practical tools and strategies that integrate learning mindsets and motivate students. The goal is to influence attitudinal and behavioral shifts in how student affairs educators perceive, communicate, advise, and impact 'the psychological air' students breathe beyond the classroom, to support the success of Santa Fe College and its students.

According to Dr. Young, “Student Affairs staff and advisors are uniquely positioned to create space for students to bring their whole selves to academic settings and support students navigating the transition between high school and college or between life and college. Research suggests that when contexts support learning mindsets - our beliefs and perceptions about learning - their students are more motivated to take on challenging work, more likely to persist in the face of obstacles and setbacks, and more likely to achieve higher levels of personal and academic success.”

All SF employees are invited to participate in the event.
