Santa Fe College Students Shine at Johns Hopkins Symposium
March 26, 2024
March 26, 2024 – Two Santa Fe College students, Coral DiMartino and Alannah Peacock, recently presented at a conference held at Johns Hopkins University. Both students took Dr. Marin Smillov's Biomedical Ethics class during last year's fall term. Their research papers were accepted by Johns Hopkins University for the Richard Macksey Undergraduate Research Symposium. Participants are selected from a nationwide pool of submissions from all leading academic institutions.
Coral and Alannah were in a session with two other students from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania. Coral's presentation was titled "Balancing Science and Ethics: Exploring the Relationship Between Human Clinical Trials and Human Rights." Alannah's was "Persistence of Eugenic Thought in Modern Medicine and Potential Ethical Consequences."
Last year, Dr. Smillov took one of his students to present at this symposium, and this year it was two! Kudos to Coral, Alannah and Dr. Smillov!
