Latin American History, Culture and Arts Conversation Series Begins Feb. 29

February 23, 2024 – Santa Fe College and the Latina Women's League are teaming up to host a series of engaging conversations. These discussions are designed to help students, faculty, staff and the Gainesville community learn more about Latin American History, Culture and Arts.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, Feb. 29, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Santa Fe College's Blount Hall for the first discussion with Dr. Luis Felipe Lomelí on "Message in a Bottle: Latin American Literature and Identity."
Dr. Lomelí, a distinguished scholar with degrees in Physics Engineering, Ecology, and Cultural Studies, brings a unique perspective to the discussion. Drawing from his extensive experience teaching at prestigious institutions like Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey and Universidad Iberoamericana-Puebla, Dr. Lomelí will delve into the profound connections between literature, identity, and understanding oneself.
"Reading literary fiction is about understanding ourselves and developing the necessary skills to predict the future," Dr. Lomelí stated, emphasizing the transformative power of literature beyond mere entertainment or historical learning.
