The SF Achieve Journey: Mentorships
January 25, 2024
January 25, 2024 – Not every high school student believes college is for them. Time and money weigh heavily on students pondering their dreams. Santa Fe College (SF) strives to remove the barriers separating high school students from getting what they want out of life.
"This place is all about making sure students, particularly those who are making such a large leap of faith to be here, have the tools they need to not just succeed, but thrive," Quinten Eyman, Director of Recruitment and SF Achieve, a transformative program for high school students, said.
In addition to scholarships, SF Achieve offers college coaching to students and their parents or guardians.
"SF Achieve Scholars, which is what we call students who complete our program in high school and enroll at the college, have a faculty or staff mentor to help them," Eyman said. "Their mentor doesn't answer every question, but helps their students figure out how to get those answers."
Alachua and Bradford County public high schools have an Achieve specialist onsite. The support does not end upon graduating high school and enrolling at Santa Fe College. Scholars are matched with an SF Achieve mentor who serves as their guide throughout the college experience. This mentor-student dynamic instills confidence and resilience so Scholars can establish and attain their goals.
SF Achieve mentorships help students overcome some of the obstacles that stand in the way of their dreams. Learn more at https://www.sfcollege.edu/prepare/achieve/mentorships/.
