Summer Service Projects with Civic Engagement and Service

Student Life's office of Civic Engagement and Service if offering service experiences around our community this summer! These service projects are a great way to experience different volunteer settings and meet students who share an interest in serving our community.
Saints Share Wear
Wednesday, May 17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Saints Share Wear is SF's on-campus thrift store where every item is one dollar! Proceeds support scholarships for SF's career service employees, and the store promotes sustainability and a circular economy! Volunteers will help process donations and prepare inventory.
Repurpose Project
Friday, June 2, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
The Repurpose Project is a non-profit community based effort to divert useful resources from the landfill, redirect these items to the public for art and education, inspire creativity, and help us all rethink what we throw away. Volunteer will assist with processing and organizing donations.
Rebuilding Together of North Central Florida
Friday, June 9, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Rebuilding Together of North Central Florida envisions safe homes and communities for everyone by repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives. Volunteer may assist with house painting, pressure washing, ramp building/repair, siding repair, yard cleanup and landscaping.
Kanapaha Botanical Gardens
Friday, June 16, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is a 68 acre non-profit facility comprised of 24 major botanical collections. Volunteer will help remove invasive plants and assist with other gardening tasks.
Bread of the Mighty Food Bank
Friday, June 23, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Bread of the Mighty Food Bank's mission is to provide food, hope and encouragement to help nourish the hungry and food insecure in our community. Volunteers will help facilitate a food distribution in Chiefland, located in Levy County.
We Rock Gainesville
Friday, June 9, 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
We Rock Gainesville is a week-long camp for girls and gender-expansive youth ages 10-17 that teaches self-esteem, confidence, communication and creativity through music education. Campers are grouped in a band, rehearse throughout the week, and perform on a live stage. Volunteers will help set up the camp equipment and supplies at a local church the day before camp kicks off.
Alachua County Animal Resources
Friday, July 7, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Alachua County Animal Resources is the temporary home for stray, abandoned, abused, neglected, & homeless animals.
Volunteers may be assigned to a play yard to interact with the dogs, nature trail
walks to help dogs get daily enrichment and exercise, or the group may be asked to
assist with minor cleaning tasks.
Ichetucknee Springs State Park
Friday, July 14, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
A nuisance plant known as water lettuce is swarming the gorgeous Ichetucknee River. Volunteer "water lettuce warriors" will help remove the invasive plant to help protect the river's fragile ecosystem.
Partnership for Strong Families
Tuesday, July 18, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Every summer, Partnership for Strong Families hosts their "Back to School Drive," preparing local youth who have experienced abuse or neglect for the first day of school with the supplies they need for academic success. Volunteers will help fill backpacks with donated school supplies.
You must sign up in advance to participate in these service projects – space is limited! To sign up, email sarah.blanc@sfcollege.edu.
To participate, you must:
- Be a currently enrolled SF student in good standing
- Have at least a 2.0 GPA
- Be at least 18 years old or have a parent/guardian sign paperwork
