Head Coach Chanda Stebbins Wins 300th Game in 59-54 Win Over FSCJ

January 26, 2023 - Head Coach Chanda Stebbins of Santa Fe College women's basketball won her 300th career game on Wednesday evening inside the SF Gymnasium, as the Saints got past FSCJ by a 59-54 score.
The victory was the third in a row for Santa Fe, and it started the celebration for Stebbins and her team in front of a great home crowd on Career Service Appreciation Night.
Several Santa Fe College staff members were on hand to be honored and recognized at halftime for their efforts, and Stebbins, in her 21st season at SF, was honored postgame with a 300-win plaque and a water bottle shower from her team as well…
HOW IT HAPPENED
Santa Fe led 33-18 at the half and were in complete control. Irene Kabassubabo had 11 first-half points, already setting a career-high mark for the freshman.
The Saints' lead was a large as 19, and SF outscored FSCJ 20-8 in the paint.
The tide turned dramatically in the third quarter, as FSCJ outscored SF 27-13 to head into the final quarter trailing by just one point, 46-45.
The basket seemed to have a lid on it for the Saints, who shot just 29 percent in the frame to go along with seven turnovers.
In the final quarter, the game was tied for the third time, 54-54, as the clock dwindled all the way down to a minute. Malea Brown sunk two free-throws to put SF ahead with 49 seconds left.
On the ensuing FSCJ possession, the Blue Wave came up empty on two free-throws of their own and were forced to foul the Saints. Selah Reddick hit one of two, handing SF a 57-54 lead with seven seconds left.
FSCJ drew up a play looking for a game-tying triple but turned the ball over instead, and Khalea Douglas' final free-throws iced the victory for the Saints.
KEY STATISTICS
SF had a season-high ten blocks and outrebounded FSCJ 52-41, helping to offset a below-average shooting performance from the perimeter.
18 of the team's 22 baskets were assisted.'
Kabassubabo was the leading scorer for the Saints with her career-high 13, while Isabella Reynolds joined her in double-figures with 10.
Joey Delancy snagged a career-high 13 rebounds, while Reddick contributed eight points and 11 rebounds of her own.
