Fall Convocation Kicks Off New Academic Year Friday, Aug. 19

August 18, 2022 – Santa Fe College President Paul Broadie II, Ph.D. invites the college community to celebrate the start of the 2022-2023 academic year with fall convocation to be held in the Jackson N. Sasser Fine Arts Hall Friday, Aug. 19, beginning at 9 a.m. Before convocation, there will be an jazz ensemble consisting of SF employees Mike Hutley, David Smith, Gary Hartge playing with Nolan Staples and David Marsh beginning at 8 a.m. Light refreshments will be served at 8:30 a.m. and there will be an option for lunch for those who attend in person after convocation.

This year's convocation will feature student stories, updates from both Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, information on upcoming projects from Facilities Services, as well as recognition of employee service to the college. During his remarks, President Broadie will review progress made over the last year on existing college programs and initiatives, but will primarily focus on how we advance the college moving forward. Dr. Broadie will present his vision for how the college can serve students into the future, building on past successes and envisioning how they can meet the needs of students now.
There will also be updates on the Santa Fe College Academy of Science and Technology, the Learning Commons, the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and the college's Quality Enhancement Plan.
The guest speaker at convocation will be Peter Felten, executive director of the Center for Engaged Learning, assistant provost for teaching and learning, and professor of history at Elon University. He will be talking about relationship-rich education and how faculty and staff across the college can develop relationships that support student success.
