March 5, 2022
March 4, 2022 - Santa Fe College President Paul Broadie released the following statement in support of the people of Ukraine.
We are deeply saddened by the events that are taking place in Ukraine. These
acts of violence are in stark contrast to what we at Santa Fe College believe in. Our college stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine against these horrible acts of aggression.
The Fine Arts Hall Tower glows at night in the colors of the Ukrainian flag in tribute to the Ukrainian people. I want to thank Liz Reynolds, our Lighting Design Manager, for showing her support for the Ukrainians with this display shortly after the Russian invasion began.
These are particularly difficult times for those with ties to Ukraine, including many with friends and family living there or fleeing the conflict. I have personally spoken with our Ukrainian students, and I know they have connected with many of our faculty and staff. Members of our community are organizing efforts to provide support.
Santa Fe College has a special connection with Ukraine. Over the past seven years, our college has developed profound and meaningful partnerships with Ukrainian educators and their institutions. In hosting Ukrainian delegations at our college and being welcomed as guests at their institutions, we have become colleagues and friends. Our District Board of Trustees has written a letter to our past visitors from Ukraine to express our collective solidarity.
Our college has a long history of promoting the importance of global understanding throughout our programs, services, and curriculum. At times like these, we believe the need for global understanding is greater than ever.
We extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this tragedy and remain resolute in our support for the Ukrainian people and a more peaceful future.
