Returning to Santa Fe College This Summer or Fall? Here's What to Expect
June 17, 2021
NOTE: Santa Fe College hosted a vaccination clinic Tuesday, June 29. The clinic, held in the Building S lobby/recreation area offered members of the SF community the Pfizer vaccine. SF will host a follow-up vaccination clinic Tuesday, July 20, beginning at 9 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome, all college safety protocols will be in effect for the event.
June 17, 2021 – Last month, Santa Fe College announced it was adjusting its COVID-19 safety protocols in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. As more students, faculty and staff come to SF we will all be expected to work collaboratively to mitigate risk and uphold the health of the college community.
As of May 21, wearing a facemask outside became optional. Indoor masks will be optional when Summer B courses start Monday, June 28. Although masks are optional, the CDC recommends that anyone not fully vaccinated should continue to wear one to protect themselves and others. Additionally, those who have been fully vaccinated may still feel more comfortable wearing a mask. As of June 28, the decision to wear a mask is up to each individual, and the decision each of us makes as we move through the summer and into the fall should be respected by others at the college.
The college will maintain the same physical distancing requirements during Summer B as it has throughout the pandemic. Classrooms will have limited seating, large spaces like R-001, S-29/30 and other large areas on the Northwest Campus will be available as classroom spaces to accommodate larger class sizes. The college will resume normal academic activity and student services with relaxed physical distancing protocols when the fall term commences on Monday, Aug. 23.
College leadership is aware of concerns that students, faculty and staff may have as the on-site population increases, and continues to monitor CDC, Florida Department of Health and local authority guidance. The college has continued to monitor local COVID cases, hospitalizations and internal reporting, all of which have been moving in a positive downward direction, which is why the college is making the changes noted above and preparing for additional protocol adjustments moving into the fall. Should the situation change, the college is agile enough to adjust and respond accordingly.
All students, faculty and staff should stay home if they are sick or showing any symptoms of COVID-19. Self-reporting options are necessary to minimize the risk of college community spread. Students should complete the online form; staff should immediately notify Human Resources at 352-395-5185 or human.resources@sfcollege.edu.
The college continues to maintain a COVID-19 resource webpage and encourages anyone looking for the most current information to visit the CDC website. For vaccine information, call the Alachua County Health Department at 352-334-7900 or the Bradford County Health Department at 904-964-7732.
