Santa Fe College Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Edward T. Bonahue has been selected to be the new president at Suffolk County Community College on Long Island, NY. Bonahue has served SF for 23 years, starting as a professor of Humanities and Theatre in 1997. He was named Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2008 before being named Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs the following year.
Under his leadership, the college expanded foreign language classes, increased study abroad opportunities and added nine bachelor's degree programs. He was also instrumental in college-wide grant initiatives and provided leadership on Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation.
SF President Paul Broadie II, Ph.D. praised the work of the provost saying that in addition to all of the advancements the college has made with the provost, "Most of all, Ed has always championed and advanced our mission of student learning and success. I have been fortunate to work closely with Ed during my tenure and I personally thank him for his leadership, and his many contributions to the college and the community over the years."
"Santa Fe has been an enormous part of my life, and I'm deeply grateful to have had a home here, and the opportunity to contribute to the life of the college" said Bonahue. "Like Santa Fe, Suffolk County Community College is an outstanding institution, focused on serving its students and community. I'm tremendously excited to have the opportunity to serve as president there."
Suffolk County Community College is a public community college in Selden, New York. It is sponsored by State University of New York (SUNY) system, and was founded in 1959. The college has three campuses and two centers across Long Island.
Dr. Bonahue will still be at SF for a few weeks before making the transition to New York. The college is grateful for his service to the students, faculty and staff and wish him nothing but the best with this new opportunity.
