SF Faculty Are Invited to Take Part in ACUE Training

January 21, 2021 – Santa Fe College faculty are invited to attend a new initiative that is the product of a collaboration among five Florida colleges that have provided the Association of Colleges and University Educators (ACUE) training to their faculty. In addition to SF, this partnership includes Indian River State College, Broward College, Miami Dade College and Florida Gateway College. These 5 colleges have joined forces to bring you The Coffee Shop - a homebrewed initiative highlighting the work of ACUE learners and alumni.
The Coffee Shop provides webinars that are like an espresso shot - short and highly concentrated. Each session will include two baristas (presenters) sharing evidence-based teaching practices or strategies. After the baristas have shared their practices or strategies, you will break out to discuss how you can implement the shared ideas and will leave the session equipped with ideas on how to enhance teaching and learning.
The Coffee Shop sessions are open to all faculty, but seating is limited. Feel free to register for one session or both. After you register for a session and the registration window has closed, you will receive a Zoom link to join. You must register for this month's sessions by Sunday, Jan. 24.

Focus: Engaging Underprepared Students
Session 1
When: Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 2:30–3:45 p.m. Click HERE to register
Baristas:
Dr. Andrea Apa, English for Academic Purposes, Broward College.
Dr. Apa will demonstrate several strategies to engage students, including checking
for understanding, opportunities to practice class lessons, games such as Kahoot or
Zoom polls and pre-assessments called "Before Quizzes".
Dr. Cressa Zajac, School of Education, Indian River State College
Learn what you can do to engage students and support them to success through virtual
office hours.
Session 2
When: Wednesday, Jan. 27, 6– 7:15 p.m. Click HERE to register
Baristas: Dr. David Peridan, Chemistry, Broward College
Technology can be used to effectively engage students and to facilitate formative
assessments that provide feedback on the learning process. Many of these same technologies
allow students to work with one another and share the information they create or discuss
with the instructor.
Gail Williams, Nursing, Miami Dade College
Professor Williams will demonstrate an assignment geared at assisting underprepared
students to be successfully prepared for class.
