SF Student Recognized for LGBTQ+ Leadership Role
The Santa Fe College LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Affinity Group recently recognized SF student Elisabeth Eder for leading the effort to establish
an LGBTQ resource center. Elisabeth is a second-year student studying sociology at
SF. The group presented Eder with an award for excellence.
"We were thrilled to see a student take initiative and lead the effort to bring the
college this resource," LGBTQ Affinity Group representative Chelsea Carnes said. "We
see this new center as a cause for celebration and a historical moment at SF. Our
group unanimously voted to recognize Elisabeth for her work to make it happen."
The affinity group is comprised of LGBTQ+ faculty, staff and allies and strives to
provide a welcoming and affirming space to attract, represent and retain LGBTQIA+
faculty and staff at Santa Fe College.
"It is a great honor to be recognized for my effort in leading the establishment of
Santa Fe College's LGBTQ+ Resource Center," Elisabeth said. "While at Santa Fe, I
have met many students who would benefit from connections within the LGBTQ+ community.
That led me to recognize the importance of an LGBTQ+ Resource Center on campus, a
welcoming place of support and acceptance that brings students together."
Elisabeth began a petition for the center, which drew the support of more than 400
SF students and faculty and continues to be involved on the development of the center
and its programs
"I am excited for the valuable connections and resources this center will provide
to the Santa Fe community," she added.
The LGBTQ+ Resource Center is expected to open in later this spring in Building G,
Room 024 on the Northwest Campus.
