SF Teaching Zoo and SFPD Team Up for Canned Food Drive

October 15, 2020

The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo and Santa Fe College Police Department are working together to help food-insecure families in the community with a canned food drive. Beginning Thursday, Oct. 15 through Friday, Nov. 20, they will be hosting #WhoCanYouCan, collecting canned goods for the Gainesville Harvest Food Bank and Catholic Charities.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has changed many things in our community – but one thing that hasn't changed is the need for food donations to help hungry people in North Central Florida. Even before the pandemic, as many as one out of every five people, and one of every four children in the community did not have reliable access to food. The economic strain brought on by the pandemic has not only continued to impact the most vulnerable in the region, but also those who had never needed to rely on food donations have now found themselves in need.
The SF Teaching Zoo and SFPD are doing their part to combat hunger and support those in our community in need of help. There will be donation boxes set up across SF's Northwest Campus, as well as SF's Andrews Center in Starke, Blount Center in Gainesville, Davis Center in Archer and Perry Center in Alachua. There are also donation boxes set up around the community at Cricket Wireless stores, Campus USA branches, Lifesouth, and Danscompany studios. For a complete list of locations visit SF's Facebook Events page and look for #WhoCanYouCan.
Now is a great time to come together as a community. Drop off a non-perishable canned good, tag yourself on social media with #WhoCanYouCan and and support those in need here in the heart of Florida.
