Memorial Day is a day to honor and mourn the military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is holding a virtual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25th at 1 p.m. Visit the event page to leave a written or video message and take a virtual tour of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Take a moment to reflect by visiting one of the many veterans memorials throughout Alachua County or wherever you are located. Send photos and remembrances to sarah.blanc@sfcollege.edu and your submission could be featured on social media.

This year also marks the first Memorial Day since the passing of local WWII veteran U.S. Marine Corporal Robert "Bob" Gasche. Gasche was one of the last surviving WWII Marines who participated in the assault on Iwo Jima. He is decorated in medals including a Purple Heart and he was a captivating speaker, sharing his experiences on SF's campus many times. Watch this video of an interview SF recorded with Mr. Gasche.
