Tree Kangaroo Meets His Mate

April 30, 2020

April 30, 2020 – As promised, a mate for Ecki the Matschie's tree kangaroo has arrived at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo! In February, Adelaide made the journey from the San Antonio Zoo in Texas to sunny Florida. While they live right next door to each other, they are acclimating to their new homes. For now, they are only offering casual glances towards each other.

In the wild, Matschie's tree kangaroos are believed to be more solitary animals. They've got social distancing down pat. Zookeepers will monitor their behavior closely in the coming weeks to look for cues that they want to get more acquainted. Check back to see how their relationship blossoms.

We will be celebrating tree kangaroos all month long with Tree Kangaroo Tuesdays! Join us on social media every Tuesday to learn more about Matschie's tree kangaroos, how we care for them, and how you can help save this endangered species.
