SF's Educational Talent Search CANVAS Course Named Finalist for Exemplary Practice Award
April 29, 2020
April 29, 2020 – Santa Fe College's Educational Talent Search (ETS), part of the college's TRIO program, has been named a finalist for the Student Development Commission Exemplary Practice Award 2020.
ETS operates as a consortium between Santa Fe College, the College of Central Florida and Florida Gateway College to provide college access and information to 680 rural, first-generation, low-income high school students yearly.
The ETS team worked with SF Instructional Designer Jason Frank to create an online noncognitive skill course in CANVAS aimed at high school students in the college's service district. ETS developed a series of engaging and relevant courses for students, that integrated academic coaching with peer mentorship. Students from SF served as the peer mentors and were available to answer questions, provide encouragement, and demystify the college experience for our program participants.
Over the first year since it was implemented, statistics have shown that the program increased student contact and engagement over 500% and increased the rate of college enrollment of program participants.
ETS director, Adrienne Provost, will present at the Student Development Commission Conference Thursday, May 21.
Congratulations to Adrienne and the rest of the ETS Team!
