Weekly Update for Faculty and Staff From HR

March 30, 2020 - Santa Fe College Human Resources Director Lela Frye released the following information to faculty and staff Sunday evening.

Dear SF Faculty and Staff,

Congratulations on completing your first full week of remote work. So much has happened during this week in our college, community and state. You received confirmation from President Broadie that the college would continue our current alternative workplace assignments offering virtual service until at least April 15. Alachua County enacted additional measures in regard to social distancing, and Governor DeSantis provided more direction through new executive orders. The college also began an extensive cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing of college facilities this week and is securing those buildings to ensure the work environments will be ready for our return.

The college also completed its first virtual payroll certification process and we are happy to report that our first completely virtual payroll was successfully processed and will be paid as expected Tuesday, March 31. In our continued effort to provide detailed follow-up information, we have prepared the summary below of important reminders and further clarifications regarding compensation for all SF employees and TempForce talent.

COMPENSATION:

  • Please keep in mind that all dates listed below are reflective of the full Sunday-Saturday college work week.
  • All full-time and part-time employees, including student employees in all categories, will be compensated for the hours they were scheduled to work until April 15.
  • All TempForce talent assigned to SF will be compensated for the hours they were scheduled to work until April 15. Please make sure to continue electronic timesheet submission to TempForce as normal.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  • During this time period while the college remains open for services, most employees are working from home while others may still be providing on-site service based on the nature of their jobs.
  • We recognize that not all jobs transition as easily to working from home and therefore encourage employees and supervisors to continue to coordinate regarding work expectations and availability for the time periods employees are scheduled to work.
  • Employees may be asked to provide assistance to other departments during this time where some areas have a need for additional assistance.
  • Do you have projects you just haven't been able to get to? This may be a good time to tackle those.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • This is also a great time for refreshing your skills or learning something new.
  • Professional development opportunities abound.
  • Check out Center for Academic Technology workshops on how to master new technologies.
  • HR will be providing weekly suggestions for training. This first week's topic was "Communication" and links will be available soon on the HR page under "Training and Development"

TECH SUPPORT:

As we continue to master new technology that allows us to work remotely and practice social distancing, it is important that we don't lose our personal connections. HR and CCS will be partnering to find creative ways for employees to stay connected and share tips and strategies for working remotely. Next week we encourage you to engage in a virtual group activity with your department, maybe a face-to-face zoom meeting or picture exchange of the view from your new virtual office. It is extremely important while working in this remote environment that you monitor the college COVID-19 website, pay attention to daily messages in the Today@SantaFe (TASF) and carefully review weekly email communications from the President, Human Resources and other alerts from TASF that are intended to keep you informed and supported.
