Daylight Saving Time Ends This Weekend
October 31, 2019
October 31, 2019 – Daylight saving time will come to an end at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. Although most smartphones, computers and other technological devices will change by themselves, you should change the times on your alarm clocks, ovens, coffee maker, etc. before going to bed Saturday night.
Many people are wondering what happened to the law passed in Florida in 2018 that would keep the Sunshine State in daylight saving time all year long. Although the state of Florida signed off on it, the change requires approval from the federal government. Senator Marco Rubio put forth bills in both 2018 and 2019 to allow Florida, and other states passing similar legislation to stay on daylight saving time. Until the federal government decides, the state will continue to change clocks twice a year.
Since Florida passed the bill, other states including Washington, Oregon, California, Maine and Tennessee have either passed similar bills, or have them proposed in their current legislative schedules.
The good news is we gain an hour of sleep Sunday night. Daylight saving time fans will have to wait until Sunday, March 8, 2020, to get that extra hour of sun.
