SF Volleyball: Saints Win Fifth Game in a Row

October 16, 2019

October 16, 2019 – The Santa Fe College Saints volleyball team advance their win streak to five after a straight-set victory 25-17, 25-15, 25-16 over Eastern Florida State College Titans Tuesday evening.

After a slow 13-9 start in the first set where the Titans had seven straight points, the Saints regrouped and had a rally of their own a few rotations later and went on a nine-point run to close the set.

"We had a bit of a championship hangover in the first set, after clinching the Panhandle Conference on Friday, but they rallied nicely the rest of the way," said Saints head coach Nick Cheronis.

The winning effort was led by Natalia Martinez with seven kills on 15 attempts and only one error. Emily Register led the way in blocking with four total blocks. Cheronis explained, "When our middles are aggressive, they can put a lot of pressure on the opposition both defensively and offensively."

The win moves the Saints to a 9-11 overall record.

SF concludes the regular season with "Sophomore Day" at home Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. against Pasco-Hernando State College. The sophomore class of Zoey Chilcote, Alicia Marzullo, Kelley Catlett, Jordyn Goracke, Jenna Wiggs and Natalia Martinez have been part of two Panhandle Conference Championships and two consecutive trips to postseason play.
